Uncommon Shapes are a Common Mistake

Good ideas from the past on how to plan and design an attractive, easy-to-build and easy-to-maintain home in the country.

Yesterday’s designers experimented with unusual shapes for their structures. Octagonal houses and round barns were, briefly, quite popular. The reason you don’t see too many of those buildings today is that the experiments were failures. The added expense of construction and awkward interior spaces that resulted made builders appreciate the advantage of square and rectangular plans.

The design of your new country home is too important to be either a fad or an experiment. Traditional design solutions became the tradition because they worked. Build a square-cornered country home - it will cost you less and it will fit your furniture.
